WESTERN HORSES

SPARKPLUG CAT
Nickname: Sparky

Sparky is a fun little horse. He's a complete sweetheart, but kind of a spazz. He's by far the most mischievous horse in the barn, and is always getting into trouble. He's good at pretty much whatever sort of Western riding you'd like to do. He'll put you in a decent position to rope and can do some basic reining maneuvers. He does keep you on your toes, though, so be aware.

BLACKBIRD
Nickname: Birdie
Gender: Mare
Breed: American Quarter Horse
Age: 15
Height: 15.1 hands

Birdie is a complete sweetheart, but she is kind of shy and sensitive, and a bit over-reactive. Every little thing tends to spook her, so you have to be on your toes with her. However she is extremely affectionate, and quite the doll-face. She's the sort of horse who's a little like a dog and absolutely loves people. She'll come greet you at the gate without a second thought. She's mostly a trail horse, doesn't have a whole lot of patience for arena-work. However, she's a very willing partner.

TEMPEST TORN

Height: 16 hands

Tempest is one of the youngest horses on the ranch, as well as the tallest. She is a complete speed demon, and was primarily trained as a barrel racer. "Slow" is not in this mare's vocabulary; she goes quickly no matter where she's going. She also bluffs a lot, pretends like she might bite, even though she never would. She hasn't got a mean bone in her body, and she really is a fun little horse, if you can get over being kind of scared of her.

Sky is extremely stubborn, and you always get more with sugar than with vinegar when it comes to this little horse. She's primarily a trail horse, as she isn't much of an arena horse, unless your running barrels or poles. She isn't very well disciplined, isn't great with leads or pace or head carriage. She is great fun for a good gallop down the trails, though, and is also quite fast, considering her size, keeping up with the bigger horses without too much problem. She is also a complete sucker for sugar cubes, and would do practically ANYTHING for one.

BLUE-LIKE-JAZZ
Nickname: Jazz, Jazzy
Gender: Mare
Breed: Mustang
Age: 5 or so
Height: 15 hands

Jazzy is a very inquisitive little mare, always sticking her nose into something and getting into trouble. She's partial to having a good time, and is one of those horses who has the bad vice of cribbing if she doesn't have some kind of ball in her stall with her. She is also perhaps the fastest horse on the ranch, and great for barrel racing and loves to go running down the trails. She can be a but headstrong and feisty, so be aware of that before you get on her; she should probably only be ridden by riders who have at least some experience with horses.

ENGLISH HORSES

BLAME IT ON THE MISTLETOE
Nickname: Teddy
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Paso Fino
Age: 10
Height: 14 hands

Teddy, as he is best known, was a horse that came into Toby's care around a year ago, around Christmastime, and has a special place in the man's heart. Badly abused, the little horse originally had some very severe trust problems, as well as being highly head shy, but is now among the friendliest and sweetest horses at Deercreek, though he is still very sensitive. He's a curious little thing, very fond of people, and an absolute lover of carrots. He's a good worker, free from the usual lesson horse laziness, but needs a calm and gentle rider on his back. He is also gaited and his smooth fino gaits make him great for unbalanced beginners.

WITH EVERY BEAT
Nickname: Harmony
Gender: Mare
Breed: Thoroughbred
Age: 5
Height: 16.1 hands

Though born to race, Harmony never saw any action on the track. Her somewhat stocky build landed her a better sell for pleasure over a life of claims races. She was bought by a small time trainer who took her through most of her training to date. Though she needs some finishing, her temperament is so uncharacteristically mellow until she's good for most anyone. However, her height and her breeding give her a long, smooth, and exhilerating stride at all gaits that can easily make you forget your problems.

THE PERFECT MAN
Nickname: Ciaran, Ciar

Breed: Paint
Age: 8
Height: 15.2 hands

As his registered name suggests, Ciaran (pronounced KEER-awn) is a perfect gentleman of a horse. A fun boy to ride, he very much takes care of his rider and forms instant bonds. When Sadie fell off of him a month or so ago it completely shook the poor gelding up and he wouldn't touch his grain for nearly a week. He's got even, comfortable gaits for a working English horse, neither too slow, nor too quick, and keeps his head in most environments, though the woods can make him a bit spooky. He'll win most anyone's heart fast.

CASINO BLITZ

Breed: Dutch Warmblood
Age: 9
Height: 16.3 hands

Though she's a big girl, tall and built like a tank, Cassie is an absolute doll who truly will bond with anyone that rides her with some frequency. Though she is not the friendliest at first, and can be a bit scary because of her size, after a few lessons on her she'll be your best friend. Of all the horses at Deercreek she is among the best trained. Talented on the flat, she has been taught dressage, but she is also an excellent jumper. She is a great worker, happy to have several riders in a single day. She's a perfect lady mannerwise and can really teach her rider alot.

KING OF MY HEART
Nickname: Henry
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Thoroughbred
Age: 5
Height: 17 hands

After growing tired of the track a year ago, Henry was snapped up by the Jacksons rather recently as a bit more of a gamble than their other horses, but has turned out to be a good little investment. Though he is still a Thoroughbred and can be spooky and narotic at times, he is overall one of the best for the kids. His confidence and social nature allow him to instantly gel with a student, while his steadiness under saddle gives the kids the boost of confidence they often need. He's next to bomb proof for the most part, but everyone should still be alert around him due to his size.

IRENIC SPIRIT
Nickname: Jack
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Appendix Quarter Horse
Age: 15
Height: 15.1 hands

After years as a lesson and show horse, Jack's owner was forced to re-home him when she learned she was pregnant. When she ran into Mrs. Jackson at the obstetrician's office, she knew it was fate and donated him to the program. Very well trained and much more seasoned than any of the other English horses at Deercreek, he is a great fit for many of the kids. He can be a bit difficult to control over jumps, simply needing a confident rider that can yield to his own ability to judge the jumps. With a good rider, he can soar up to four feet, though the instructors tend to avoid such feats.

NOUS ALLONS ENSEMBLE
Nickname: Allessandro, Al
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Thoroughbred x Percheron
Age: 14
Height: 16.3 hands

Al is a calm, lovable lug of a horse, a true teddy bear. His quiet, sensible nature makes him absolutely perfect for the vaulting program, happy to go in circles on a lunge line the whole day through. He might not be the tallest horse on the property, but his thick bone structure and wide back makes him perfect for the job. None-too-easily excitable, it's tough to get this gelding excited about much of anything, except perhaps the mares who he must be kept away from if one wants even a half-way decent ride.

CLOUDWALKER

Cloudy is a rather interesting little horse; she is very introverted and leans toward being lazy, but is willing enough if you know how to work her. Adelle is just beginning her training and so she's very green. She is a sweet little mare, though, and has terrific ground manners. She's also very affectionate, and loves her routine grooming.

DAKOTA ROSE

Rosie came to Adelle as a yearling at a BLM auction, and has been with her ever since. She is very bonded to Adelle, and would do practically anything for her. However, she's well behaved enough with other people as well, although she is very feisty and opinionated. Only advanced students are allowed to get on her, as she is very feisty and doesn't put up with bad seats or harsh hands, even if it is on accident. She has been known to buck and doesn't have much patience, so she's generally only used for Adelle's lessons. However, she loves apples and barrel racing.

CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST

Casper is the goofiest equines on the place. He came to Adelle for training, but he proved to be simply too much for his timid young rider. Adelle, however, absolutely loves him. He is the friendliest horse, but is always getting into some kind of trouble. Always. You have to keep your eye on him at all times, or he'll have your hair or your hat in his teeth. He is mostly ridden bareback as finding tack to fit him can be rather difficult, and Adelle tends to have all her students ride him at some point or another, just because she thinks it's good for the equine education. He is quite the character, though, and pretty much everyone on the ranch absolutely loves you.

RANCH CRITTERS

BARLOW
Nickname: Bar
Gender: Colt
Breed: Donkey
Age: 13 weeks
Height: 45 inches

Barlow was another doorstep critter. Toby was always rather a fan of donkeys and wanted one for a pet, so, naturally, they had to keep him. He is quiet the little jokester, always getting into trouble. He has the run of the ranch, and he is actually still on a bottle, being an orphan as he is.

STORMY & THUNDER
Nickname: Stormy & Thunder
Gender: Mare & Colt
Breed: Miniature Horses
Age: 4 & 3 weeks
Height: 30 inches

Stormy was a little rescue who was dropped on Deercreek Ranch's doorstep. Of course, Sadie, being the sucker that she is, couldn't turn the mare away, and so she became a permanent resident at DCR. Of course, nobody realized she was pregnant, as she was so emaciated, but when Thunder dropped one morning, nobody could resist him either. The two of them are complete sweeties and run around rather like little dogs.

KIA

Gender: Female
Breed: Yellow Lab
Age: 6

Kia was another critter that showed up on the Jackson's doorstep. She was hit by a car and her leg was damaged beyond repair, and it had to be removed. However, she had already adopted Deercreek Ranch and its students as "hers," and she's been around ever since. She has free run of the ranch and does whatever she wants, although she's slowing down a little these days and mostly hangs around the barn.

MOSES

Breed: Great Pyrenees, Akbash Mix
Age: 5

The Jacksons actually adopted Moses along with Mona as family house pets, though during the day they roam the property, giving into their guardian instincts. Moses is extremely chill about just about anything, but will bark incessantly when his "flock," the kids and animals at Deercreek, are threatened. He adores Mona, allowing her to boss him around rather mercilessly, but is not really attached to Kia, seeming to simply tolerate her passively. Oddly enough, Moses fits in pretty well with a lot of the kids, given his history of bad abuse when he was a puppy. Still, though timid and shy, he can be lured over with a non-threatening attitude. Really, the big boy just wants some love.

MONA

Breed: Great Pyrenees, Alaskan Malamute Mix
Age: 3

This big, tall, regal girl came to Deercreek with Moses after the Jacksons learned the two dogs had grown close while in foster care. Like Moses, she has a history of abuse, so it takes her awhile to warm up to new people, but once she does she's extremely loving and loyal. Especially around the Jacksons, she is a very playful, mischievous thing with a true sense of humor. She is known to take things you are using and play keep-away with them and is also known to hide things around the house. Mona loves both Moses and Kia and her favorite thing is playing with them, which Kia often can't keep up with. She is very much a cuddle bug, especially with people and quite the affectionate thing in general, which few people mind given her big teddy bear-like appearance. She is definitely the boss of all the dogs at Deercreek and likes it that way.

PHANTOM
Nickname: Phantom, Phanny
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown

Phantom pretty much came with the property. By the time Jacksons bought the place, he had already adopted the area as his own, and the former residents didn't take him with them, so he stayed. Of course, he is a fair mouser, and keeps the population of mice down. No one knows much about his history. Even the former owners didn't know much, except that he'd just shown up one day and stuck around. He's not the friendliest cat around, but once in a while he'll come rub up against someone's legs looking for some love.
