- - so how did you end up here at Deer Creek?
"Honestly, I don't even know why I got sent here to some hicktown in the middle of nowhere. Seriously, I don't belong here and the sooner everyone realizes that, the better off we'll all be. Despite what my parents may say, I don't have "issues." I never have, they're just overly judgmental on how I choose to live my life. I guess if you had to put a label on it, you could say I'm a bit of a drinker. I don't like the term alcoholic, since it just sounds so negative. Besides, I could stop any time I wanted to. Really, I just choose not to. Not to mention, it's not like I drink because I'm depressed, or hurting, or whatever other emotions it is they decided I was feeling. Basically, it's a bunch of shit and I should be going home any day now."
- - well, give us the full run down, your whole life story
Erinn isn't the most outgoing of people and prefers to stay around just those few people that she has built up a relationship with over the years. New people and new environments tend to put her on edge and she often stays towards the back of any sort of group, just to avoid any unnecessary conversations with people she doesn't know. She also gets very defensive when people are talking to her, often assuming the worst in others. She just figures that they'll have something bad to say about her and is always slightly on edge and defensive around people.
Erinn is the type of person that can snap at a moments notice. She can be smiling and happy one moment and then turn on you the next moment in a rage. At times, the littlest of things can set her off into a tizzy and it's best to just let her anger run it's course, as she rarely holds a grudge for very long and will forgive you just as quickly as she got upset. Along with this, Erinn can get rather violent and often could be considered rather confrontational. A lot of times, it almost seems as if she's out looking for a fight, which probably wouldn't be all too far from the truth.
There are very few people that Erinn trusts and even those people took quite some time to break through the barriers that she's built up. She doesn't have any faith in other people and tends to be very guarded when it comes to people that she doesn't know. Her guardedness can often be taken as her being a bit standoffish, but that's rarely the case. She simply just doesn't trust anyone that she hasn't built a relationship with.
For those people that are able to get past Erinn's less redeeming qualities, she can be a rather good friend. She is very loyal and would stick by her friends no matter what they're going through. In a way, Erinn has a bit of a protective streak and could be deemed overly caring towards her closest friends. She has a great determination to do anything that she can to make things a little better for both the people she cares for, but values herself very little. As much effort as she puts into helping other people, she tends to blow off doing anything for herself.
At the same time, Erinn is still just learning to come into herself. After the fallout with her parents and everything else that happened to her, she is simply just trying to find her way. When someone is able to gain her trust, Erinn takes on an almost dependent role with them and needs to have them there. Though she doesn't like to admit it, she is very dependent on certain people just to simply get through the day. Because of this, Erinn is also very impressionable. If someone can make an impact on her life, she more or less could be swayed into believing anything that they say and taking on their opinions as her own.
Most of Erinn's personality stems from what has happened to her in the past. Honestly, her past isn't nearly as tragic as she makes it out to be and generally, she had a pretty decent upbringing. She was born in Orlando, Florida to her parents, Royce and Alicia Thomas. Her mother worked at a local dance studio as an instructor and her father owned a small accounting firm, so they were fairly well off. Erinn was an only child, so typically she was quite well looked after and got a good amount of attention from both of her parents. All in all, her childhood was fairly tame.
When she started elementary school, Erinn met her best friend, Ellie. From the moment that they met, the two girls were inseparable. They did everything together, from sleepovers to school work. The two continued to be best friends throughout elementary school and into middle school and they went through all the hard times, as well as the good times together. When Erinn's grandmother died, Ellie was the one that comforted her. When Ellie ranked top student in their middle school graduating class, Erinn was the first person to hop up onto the stage like a fool to congratulate her. Basically, they were the closest friends that you could find anywhere.
However, when they got to high school that started to change. Ellie moved on to become something of a boycrazed slut, which Erinn started to realize she hated. She'd never really had to deal with sharing Ellie with so many other people and to be honest, she hated it. In fact, it made her absolutely jealous. Of course, Erinn wasn't about to admit that it was because she was kind of in love with Ellie, since she still wasn't even sure if that's what it was. The possibility that she could be anything but straight made Erinn nervous to think about and admitting to such a thing would be even worse. So, Erinn, being the less than rational person that she is, figured that the best way to get Ellie back to being just her best friend was to make her jealous. Obviously, that's never the best way to go about things and it turned bad.
Erinn got in with a crowd that wasn't exactly the best of influences and started to become a party girl. It started with just the parties, going out and having a good time, but before long alcohol was brought into the mix. Erinn started to become dependent on the alcohol to keep herself in at least a somewhat good mood most of the time and her habit started to get worse over the next year. Her parents were quite sure that something was going on with her, but Erinn was shutting them out too much and they just didn't know how to help her.
For the most part, Erinn's parents tried to turn a blind eye. They made up excuses for her with the school, saying that she was just being a typical teenager and that there was nothing to worry about. Erinn herself didn't think there was anything wrong either. So, she partied a bit, drank a lot and pushed her problems to the side. No big deal. The unsteady, but somewhat peaceful coexistence with her parents lasted up until the middle of her sophomore year. After a particularly hardcore party, Erinn showed back up home, wasted and with a small bag of cocaine in her pockets. She hadn't really intended to take it, but her parents weren't hearing it.
That was the breaking point for her parents and they immediately set about finding her a counselor. They hired the best woman that they could find locally and sent Erinn there every day after school to get treatment. However, Erinn was stubborn. She didn't believe that she needed to be there and resisted it fully. The longer the sessions wore on, the less Erinn was apt to talk about the problems that she was harboring about her sexuality and the whole problem with alcoholism. Eventually, it got to the point where her parents needed another option and so, the summer before her junior year, they sent her to a place recommended by her current counselor- Deercreek Ranch. Which, to be frank, Erinn was absolutely pissed about and continues to despise every passing moment.
