Chase paced in his room. He couldn’t make up his mind, part of him wanted nothing to do with Alex, but another part of him thought that he couldn’t live without her hot-headedness and macabre sense of humor. Why did she have this kind of affect on him? He shook his head and looked out the darkening window. He didn’t know what he was going to do that night, but nothing sounded like a really great idea. He sat down on the side of his bed and brushed brown hair from his face and glared at the wall as if it was it’s fault for his indecisiveness. He pulled the covers back and laid down on the bed, not bothering to bring them back up. He felt hot. He wanted sleep, but he couldn’t get any..
2:00 AM his clock read. He looked out the window again, it was extremely windy and the clouds covered the stars. He had no pull to actually get some sleep or get out on the roof and watch the stars twinkle and the sun rise. That would usually calm him down, but when it was about Alex, he was on edge until he could figure out something to do.
He turned on his lamp and sat on the floor for a moment before springing up and quietly tip-toeing into hallway and making his way to the end where Alex resided. The Big House was quiet. Perhaps a bit too quiet, but it being new, there were only a couple of students around. He wondered what would happen if he got caught going into her room this late or rather early in the morning. He wondered if she would yell at him. Chase opened the door and could see her sleeping form. She was quite the angel, who had found him. Cheesy, I know. “You damned fool,” he muttered to himself a bit too loudly. She will never go for someone like you.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Normally Alex wouldn’t be asleep at that time. She tended to stalk around the house at night, unable to sleep because she always had so much on her mind. Lately everything keeping her up had been Chase and the face that she’d been avoiding him lately. They saw each other at breakfast and on the way to school, even had three classes together, but she always disappeared as soon as she had a chance. When they got to school she’d slip away into the crowd of kids, same as when classes would end. When they got home she’d race off to the woods or to the barn. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to see Chase, quite the opposite really. The fact that her heart leapt into her throat every time saw him scared her and until she knew how to deal with it she was going to avoid seeing him
She was smart enough not to make it obvious though. She’d smile, talk, and flirt with him while she was around him and act completely normal but give him an excuse as soon as she saw her chance to leave. Hopefully he’d just think she was busy and not that she was avoiding him, if he knew that it could end badly for her. While she’d been stalking around her room earlier she was planning on sneaking out that night and heading out to the barn just to get away from everything but one glance out her window changed her mind. It looked like it was going to storm and no matter how much of a hard ass Alex was thunder scared the shit out of her. IT was actually kind of funny, she loved lightning, thought it was beautiful, but that was what would actually hurt her but thunder, something that was just a noise, made her want to hide under her covers. Which is exactly what she’d decided to do, crawl into bed and put her headphones in and go to sleep to the soothing tones of Escape the Fate, a weird choice for something to sleep to but she didn’t care, it was loud and would drown out the storm if she wasn’t asleep by the time it started.
When Chase entered her room Alex was sleeping soundly, her headphone out of her ears from her moving around and now laying on the floor by her bed. She’d chosen a bottom bunk since she didn’t have any roommates but had decided to get a top one as soon as someone else moved into the room with her. Alex was a light sleeper if she didn’t have her music on and now that her headphones were on the floor she had nothing to block out the noise of Chase speaking. She jerked upright, hitting her head on the bottom of the top bunk. She groaned and rubbed her forehead before looking over at him. ”What’re you doing here Chase? Something wrong?” she asked as she got up. She was wearing her pajamas, a black tank top and a pair of fuzzy black shorts that had red hearts outlined on them.

Because I'm in love with you. I want more. than friendship. Chase jumped. How the hell did she hear him? Alex must’ve been a light sleeper. He turned around, wanting to snap at her for avoiding him all week. She had been avoiding him, possibly thinking that he didn’t know, that it wasn’t obvious. He had been chasing her, always chasing her. Trying to get through the crowds of students and teachers. He tried to find her at her old haunts, but he could’ve guessed that she had gone out riding. He wanted to go outside, to release his anger, but he couldn’t. It was stormy, dark, raining and windy. Cold, far too cold for him. But, right now, he didn’t care…or he did. His fist bent the metal beside her head, his breathing coming out faster. “Come with me. And dress warm,” he said turning away and walking out of her room. He snuck down outside, the wind ripping at the lack of clothing. He had on no shirt, throwing it into his room on the way out, his anger fueling his reason for warmth. He went into the barn, hoping she would know where he was. He got out the black horse that had taken to him and put the black tack on him so he would blend into the night, or at least the horse would. A pale, tall human, would really stand out. He sighed. As he climbed up on the horse, he paced him in the empty yard, waiting for her to take notice and to saddle up one of the other horses. He didn’t want to think why he was bringing her out there, he needed to be alone with her. To get answers from her, why she was avoiding him, why she didn’t seem to want to see him. “Ridiculous,” he muttered, tapping the horse harder in the sides. The gelding snorted at him, clearly picking up on his anxiety.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Okay so he woke her up, acted pissed and dented her bed, then told her to come with him?! Who the hell did he think he is? He was lucky she was groggy from sleep and that she had better control over her temper or there was a good chance she would’ve decked him before he even had a chance to get out of her room. Alex really wasn’t someone that enjoyed being woken up by some random person in her room and any other person probably would have been cussed out and then had things thrown at them until they left and she could crawl back into bed.
She grumbled to herself about how he must be freaking insane to think she was going to go outside in this kind of weather. She was scared of storms for crying out loud! And yet she found herself changing into a pair of jeans and pulling a jacket on over her tank top, tugging her boots onto her feet without socks before heading out the door. She didn’t have to wonder where he went; she’d heard the door shut as he left the house. She quietly snuck down the stairs and out the door, finding him in the yard mounted on a black gelding. She quietly growled to herself before walking into the barn. She simply grabbed a lead rope and walked into a dark bay gelding’s stall. He was even tempered and extremely well trained; she wouldn’t need an actual bridle for him or a saddle.
She led him out into the yard, using a fence to mount him since she didn’t have stirrups. She gently pressed her heels to his side and directed him towards Chase and his mount. ”Okay, I’m here. Now where are we going in the middle of the night in a storm?” she asked him, her voice surprisingly not holding any sarcasm, the storm had her actually being serious. A low rumble of thunder made her jump slightly, cause the gelding to shift under her weight.

I should've killed you
When I had the chcance Chase’s mind back to her. The blonde haired beauty that made him the way he was today. Blonde hair, blue eyes, always pushing him to anger, pushing him over. She cheated on him. He had almost killed her. Suddenly, he wish he had. He wished he had killed her, he wanted to see her dead body. He looked back at the woman he had fallen in love with. “Does it matter? Just follow me,” he yelled over the thunder, which he noticed made her jump. When he was exploring a couple of weeks ago, he had found a cave. It wasn’t far from the creek, which meant that he could find his way back to the ranch if he needed to, but it was place for him to relax and disappear for a couple of hours, even if it’s in the country and there are no city lights to fight back the darkness of that cave. He galloped away, his mind brimming with memories of that girl. The one that he had fallen in love with and then had almost killed it. It was like an obsession. Something for him to hold onto, an excuse that kept people from getting underneath his skin. But somehow, this girl, she had gotten under his skin, chasing away the dark and blackness that had corrupted his heart in the first place. He wished he could get it back, to rinse these happy-go-lucky feelings from his soul. It was ridiculous. He dismounted and tied the horse under a hanging rock out of the rain. “Stay here boy, I’ll be back later,” he said grabbing a flash light that he had stored there and took his lighter and lit the torches that he had put there and looked around the small, half-circle room. There was an old mattress with blankets and books stashed in bookcases. There were chairs that he could sit in and a pool gathering in a corner that he would drink from. He turned and faced the lit entrance, waiting for her.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She should have just turned her horse around. Put him back into his warm, dry stall and went back into the house so she could crawl into bed. She shouldn't have been galloping after him through the rain, ignoring the wetness soaking into her clothes and the cold wind whipping at her exposed face. Yet there she was, following him down one of the trails through the woods, ducking under low branches and trying to not lose him.
It showed how much she really cared about him that she was even out here. She didn't listen to anyone if she didn't want to and she especially didn't go out into a storm in the middle of the night for some guy but for some reason she found herself wanting to be there just because it was with him.She was lucky Chase didn’t put a shirt on and that he was so pale. With the clouds covering the moon there was almost no light but his skin made him easy to find in the darkness and she didn’t have much trouble following him.
When she saw him finally come to a stop and dismount she followed suit, pulling the gelding to a stop beside his mount before swinging her leg over his broad back and dropping to the ground. She stroked his nose and murmured an apology for having him out in this weather as she dropped his reins, happy he was ground tied trained and didn’t need to be tied up so he wouldn’t wonder off. Once he was taken care up she glanced around for Chase, wondering where she was. Her brown eyes finally found the entrance to the cave she walked over, wondering where they were exactly.
Once she passed the entrance she found herself looking at Chase who was waiting for her. She tore her eyes away from him and glanced around the cave, wondering how he’d gotten all of this stuff out here or found the cave at all. She was impressed.

Chase could hear her dismounting and talking to the horse. He pulled on her hand and pulled into him, her wet clothes reacting to his skin and causing him to shiver, but he didn’t care. She had followed him, after all the vague commands he had given to her. She must really like him or did she return her feelings of his love? He handed her some clothes while getting dressed in his own. “I’ll explain everything after you get out of those dirty clothes, I’m going to get some food, be right back.” He went into a small storage that the cave had created and got out some food.
When he came back, Alex was dressed in an old pair of his sweats. He could see her sniffing them and he smiled…slightly. He didn’t know how to explain what he did tonight. He kept watching her jump every time thunder went off and lightening flashed. “Are you scared?” he asked, tilting his head.
Chase brought her onto the old mattress, now that they were both dry. He put her head on his chest and sighed. “I don’t know why I brought you out here and I’m sorry for bending the metal in your bed. God, I came so close to hitting you.” Another shiver. “I can’t stand this, tell me Alex. Do you love me?” He tightened his grip on her as if she was going to slip through and run out into the storm. He needed to know, he craved to know. “Just, please, tell me. I can’t go on any longer, without knowing. If you don’t, I will leave forever, you don’t have to worry about it.” He laid her on the bed and towered over her, his brown hair dipping water onto the mattress. “Tell me,” he said more quietly.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She took the clothes from him but debated on changing into them, she wanted to rebel in some way instead of following his orders as blindly as she did but in the end she did as he said and stripped down. The sweats were warm and, the best part, smelled like him. She sniffed at them, drawing in his scent, strong, masculine. It was just like him and she loved that. She caught herself on that thought. Did that mean she loved him? She shook the thought from her mind, no way; she didn’t even know what love was. She knew deep down that she really did love him but was scared to admit it, love destroyed things.
When he came back her head snapped back up, her eyes locking onto his, wondering if he’d seen her sniffing his clothes. It wasn’t something she’d ever done before, something sentimental like that and it sort of embarrassed her. When he asking if she was scared she knew he was talking about that storm, she didn’t hide her fear very well. She tried to block out the crashing thunder and shook her head, denying that she was scared even if it was obvious. Fear was weakness, and weakness was something Alex didn’t have.
As he led her over to the mattress she settled against him easily, her body relaxing against his almost naturally. She liked how she fit into his larger body, how she felt protected despite the fact that he was someone who was violent and prone to rages. He had yet to actually hurt her and she doubted he would, despite how close he’d come earlier. Almost as if he read her mind he apologize for it and she turned her head to the side, pressing a small kiss to his chest, showing that he was forgiven. When he asked if she loved him she was shocked, she hadn’t expected him to just come out and ask like that. She let him as he laid her out flat on the mattress and stared up into his green eyes before she nodding. ”Yes, I love you Chase.” she told him quietly. She hadn’t even thought about it the words had just come out and she knew they were true.
